Parc Transwijk

Spacious terrace with flower border

On the corner of Transwijk Park in Utrecht, a complex has been built with luxury homes for the over-50s, along with homes for seniors in need of care. This allows residents to remain in their homes for extended periods, with all necessary care available. The diverse group of users has different requirements for the use of the garden. It needed to offer plenty of color, space for gardening, space for visiting grandchildren, and space for festivities. Furthermore, the design had to complement the large scale of the high-rise buildings and the park opposite, while also providing sheltered areas for residents.

A spacious terrace has been created at the restaurant, with a 40-meter-long flower border along the facade. From the terrace, guests can look out past the flowers, across the lawn, and down to the water. By sloping the lawn down to the water's edge, residents have a better view of the water from the restaurant. Several seating areas have been created in the garden, offering spots in the sun and shade, as well as waterside areas.

Raised beds offer the opportunity for self-gardening, and apple, pear, and berry bushes produce fruit in the fall. During construction, a large tree was felled, and a large portion of the trunk is now used as a play tree for grandchildren.
