Provincial House Zwolle

Redesign of flower garden
Buro Mien Ruys was involved in the site development around the Provincial House in Zwolle for the fourth time in 2021. After the construction in 1970, an expansion in 1994 and a large-scale renovation of the building and grounds in 2006, a thorough redesign of the flower garden was now in order. The principle of a slightly sunken, publicly accessible walking garden has been maintained, but with new, modern materials and contemporary planting. An important wish of the client was that the atmosphere and character of the 'real' Mien Ruys garden was preserved. Seating edges and a work of art, in the form of a large water globe, have been moved and form the edge of the flower garden.
With a view of the event grounds in the park behind it, this is now a meeting place so that nuisance from loitering youths in the flower garden is a thing of the past. The planting has been chosen for various colour themes with strong, long-flowering and easy species. Mainly nectar plants and berry-bearing trees and shrubs have been chosen. The planting is intended as inspiration for visitors and the planting plans are available from the Province
