Graaf Florishof Deventer

Count Florishof Deventer roof garden

Exuberant roof garden with minimal maintenance

The roof above the parking garage serves as the communal garden for the residents of this apartment complex. Buro Mien Ruys designed the planting plan. A key element of the roof garden is a border nearly 60 meters long and 7 meters wide. The perennials used share one characteristic: they require exceptionally little maintenance.

The plants quickly cover the ground, preventing weeds from developing. They form sturdy clumps that bloom for a long time and remain standing without support until late autumn. A limited number of species are planted in loose, repeating groups, creating an intriguing rhythm. This rhythm is reinforced by transverse beech hedges and loose ornamental grasses. This divides the long strip and gives the garden a pleasant scale. A second large planting area is planted with densely branched, berry-bearing shrubs and trees. It is developing into a bird grove.

Graaf Florishof in Deventer was developed according to the Zorgeloos Groen concept.
