Spaar en Hout

Spaar en Hout

Living on a historic country estate

Spaar en Hout is a nursing home in a special location in Haarlem, between the Haarlemmerhout and the Spaarne. The park originated from a 17th century country estate. In 1930 it was redesigned by landscape architect Springer. There are old trees and an 18th century teahouse. The house and park are national monuments.

There was a need for additional parking spaces, construction activities had damaged the site, the park was poorly maintained and there was a lack of vision on maintenance and insight into costs.

Buro Mien Ruys has drawn up a vision for the entire park. This vision has been the basis for a gradual renovation of the park. In addition, we have drawn up a maintenance plan that gives the owner more control over the management at lower costs. A historical valuation and an application for the BRIM subsidy were part of the assignment.
