Our own garden
In the autumn issue of Onze Eigen Tuin (Our Own Garden), you'll find an inspiring article about romantic gardens, written by our own Jana Schmidtchen, landscape architect at Buro Mien Ruys!
According to Jana, the romantic garden is a place where silence and melancholy converge. No perfection or control, but natural forms such as winding paths, sloping lawns, and asymmetry. Water features in the form of meandering streams, organically shaped ponds, and small waterfalls enhance the natural character. The planting is lush and loose, emphasizing the changing seasons and atmosphere. Sightlines and vistas are deliberately created, for example, through openings between trees and shrubs that offer a view of a statue, a beautiful bridge, or the landscape beyond.
Onze Eigen Tuin, the magazine for the reading gardener, was founded in 1955 by Mien Ruys and her husband Theo Moussault.
This magazine not only keeps the heritage and ideas of Mien Ruys alive, it also provides space for a new generation of garden and landscape architects.
