Festive opening of the city garden Tuinen Mien Ruys

The three gardens of our colleagues from Buro Mien Ruys were officially opened on June 14! In honor of the 100th anniversary van de Tuinen Mien Ruys they made a design for a modern city garden of 5×7 meters that meets the vision of Mien Ruys but also the demands of today: sustainable and suitable for different target groups. The result can now be admired in the Tuinen van Mien Ruys in Dedemsvaart.

Last Friday it was finally time! The official opening of the three gardens of our colleagues from Buro Mien Ruys.

Two landscape designers and a landscape architect designed a modern city garden of 5×7 meters in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Tuinen Mien Ruys. Of course, the design had to meet Mien Ruys' vision but also the requirements of today: sustainable and suitable for different target groups.

The gardens were laid out in February and are now in bloom in a beautiful spot in the Gardens of Mien Ruys. The place where Mien Ruys experimented with garden design and planting 100 years ago. Her entire life was dedicated to sleek design and good planting, something that our designers are involved with on a daily basis and which can now be seen in the newest part of the Gardens. There you will find the gardens of our own Evy Blom (Colourful children's garden), Ward Maaswinkel (Minimalist wadi garden) and Ilona Dekker (Native Eco garden).

The three gardens are designed and intended as inspiration for small back gardens. They are modern versions of the City garden from 1960 and intended for different target groups; a family with young children, an easy to maintain garden and a garden for nature lovers with vegetables, fruit and native plants. With these three completely different designs, the designers of Buro Mien Ruys show that a small garden can also be green and sustainable. In this way, the Gardens continue to renew themselves.

Festive opening

Last June 14, the three new inspiration gardens were officially opened by the King's Commissioner of Overijssel, Andries Heidema. The opening ceremony consisted of planting a head of lettuce in the stackable vegetable garden - made of recycled planters from the Tuinen nursery - by Ilona Dekker.

In the presence of Leo Linde, chairman of Stichting Tuinen Mien Ruys, Friends of the Foundation, volunteers and employees of De Tuinen, our designers, together with Anet Scholma, gave a personal explanation of their design. The three gardens were created by landscaping company Snoek Puur and are the result of a collaboration between Buro Mien Ruys and De Tuinen. We are proud of that!

The Gardens of Mien Ruys are a source of inspiration for anyone who loves gardens or garden architecture. Experiments are the strength of this green monument. The three inspirational gardens of Buro Mien Ruys are the latest addition and can now be admired in Dedemsvaart!
