Garden visit
It's always fun to see our designs come to life! Last summer, we had an inspiring garden tour day with several stops along the way. From private gardens to public green spaces, we couldn't stop talking about design, planting, and color combinations.

Review of garden viewing day 2025
This summer, our colleagues from Buro Mien Ruys and Smit Groenadvies visited the gardens again to see the results after construction and/or renovation. It was a great opportunity for our landscape architects, designers, work planners, supervisors, and project managers to reflect, observe, and learn together. What is the situation like shortly after construction, and what will it look like after several years? What are the strengths, and what could be improved?
The day began at Boot en Daart Nursery in Boskoop, where we were given a tour of the grounds. Here, we were introduced to robust and beautiful plant varieties that are particularly suitable for use in public green spaces.
We then drove on to Van Nispenpark in Hillegom, designed by Anet Scholma. During our tour, we discovered that some of the plantings didn't quite fit the plan. The gardener, who was responsible for the project, happened to be present, which provided a good opportunity to discuss the planting plan so the garden could be maintained even better in the future.
We then visited two private gardens in Aerdenhout, where it was clearly demonstrated how well planting and design can truly come together. Or perhaps not, as maintenance proves crucial for keeping even natural plantings in check.
Finally, we toured Spaar en Hout, a historic garden by Mien Ruys, where we still provide supervision and aesthetic guidance.
What became clear to us at the end of the day: a garden isn't "finished" at its creation. It's precisely the care and maintenance that create a vibrant, sustainable, and attractive garden.
We look back on an educational and inspiring day!

Historic Albert Heijn villa – with a garden by Mien Ruys!
Sometimes designs by Mien Ruys pop up unexpectedly in the news. This time in the North Holland daily newspaper and The Telegraaf. It concerns a special villa on the Provincialeweg in Zaandam, which is currently for sale on Funda.
