It's fun to see how our designs come to life! This summer, our colleagues from Buro Mien Ruys and Smit Groenadvies went on a working visit to gardens of various clients to see the result after construction and/or renovation.

Inspirational day
Some designs have recently been realized, other projects were now to be admired a few years after construction. From playgrounds, wadis, courtyards, paving, planting, color combinations and wonderfully relaxing seats among the greenery, an educational and inspiring day!
In the summer everything is in full bloom, good timing to admire the result of our work. Our landscape architects, designers, work planners, supervisors and project leaders went on a working visit to a number of project locations in North Holland together. A great moment to reflect together, see and learn what is going well in practice and what can be improved. What is our experience in space? What is the situation shortly after construction and what will it look like after a few years? What are the strong points and what can be improved?
The 'garden viewing' tour took us via Blokker, Zaandam, Amsterdam and Weesp to Haarlem to a great diversity of outdoor spaces. From an inner garden at a senior complex to public courtyards and from carefree green to playground.
Blue Banddorp
For example, we visited Blue Banddorp in Amsterdam, five courtyards that are characterized by a recognizable shape and structure but with their own character tailored to the wishes of the residents. The designs for the renovation of these gardens were made by Smit Groenadvies together with Buro Mien Ruys on behalf of housing corporation Ymere. The first garden was constructed last year, the four other courtyards followed later. In this way, we were able to see the different stages of construction and growth.

Wealth of floral splendor
Furthermore, a carefree green project was on the program, where bees and butterflies fully enjoy the wealth of floral splendor. At the renovated station square in Zaandam, passers-by and visitors of the hotel can settle down on the concrete edges of the lush borders and also enjoy this public living space. The result of a beautiful collaboration with De Enk Groen & Golf and Boot & Dart.
In Weesp we visited a few apartment buildings where we made a design for Ymere for the surrounding public green, an elongated strip of vegetation, full of flowers, ornamental grasses and trees, which the residents look out on from their balconies. This project was built a few years ago and it is valuable to admire the result at this stage; densely overgrown and fully in use by the residents.
We ended the day in Haarlem. There, various Ymere locations were on the program. For example, we visited various green recreational areas at apartment complexes, followed by a renovation project in which the public space between the flats has been provided with many new play facilities for the neighborhood children. With a view to climate adaptation and biodiversity, planted wadis and flower borders have also been created.

Inspiration, ideas and energy
Full of inspiration and impressions we looked at the last garden that was created a few years ago at a senior complex. The team thoroughly enjoyed the borders that are now blooming abundantly. It was now clearly visible how the garden shows a beautiful color palette and structures in the borders from above. We ended the day here together.
The opportunities and possibilities for green future-proof outdoor space are becoming increasingly greater and more important. From design and engineering to advice and supervision, SGA and BMR have all the expertise in-house and within our team our areas of expertise reinforce each other, which means we keep each other sharp.
We have seen a lot and are full of inspiration, ideas and energy to create many more beautiful outdoor spaces.
Together we make the Netherlands a little more beautiful and greener!
