Greening our living environment
Last week our colleagues from Smit Groenadvies and Buro Mien Ruys followed an in-depth course 'Roof and facade greenery'. Under the guidance of Terra Trainingen we learned everything about the complex aspects of greening our living environment during a three-day course. A great way to deepen our knowledge about the possibilities of greening, an important step to transform even more grey roofs and facades into green oases.
During the course we learned about the load-bearing capacity of roofs, water management, planting types, and all the important components that come into play when designing and managing green roofs and facades. From the technical construction of roof gardens with water buffering layers to the raw materials used in substrates – everything was covered! The third day consisted of an excursion during which we visited various roof gardens. From gardens that have been there for years, to newly constructed roof gardens and a roof garden under construction. The construction of the roof gardens was also thoroughly examined at that time. Holes were dug to view the substrate thickness and drain holes were used to see what kind of drainage layer and foils were used.
We are extremely excited and inspired to transform many more gray roofs and facades into green oases!
